I could not find this exact question asked or answered. It seems throughout history men and women largely wore clothing on their lower halves that did not separate the legs. At some point men got in on the pants/shorts action. I am wondering why women only started to wear pants (in Western countries) well after men started to. From what I can gather it seems pants became popular for women around the 1930s but I could be wrong there.
