How were British, French, Irish, etc. Other Europeans treated by the Nazi Germans?
We all know of Jesse Owen's lack of congratulations from Hitler, but what else happened between peoples and countries?
Hitler "snubbed" Owens? Do you have a source for that? The quote I've seen by Owens regarding this is: "Hitler had a certain time to come to the stadium and a certain time to leave. It happened that he had to leave before the victory ceremony after the 100 meters. But before he left I was on my way to a broadcast and passed his box. He waved at me and I waved back. I think it was bad taste to criticize the ‘man of the hour’ in another country.”
Check out the book The Boys in The Boat. Tells two stories, the US men's crew team and the races to get there, but it also talks about the prep that the Germans did to present the "perfect" Germany. All of the anti jew signs were taken down for a bit, certain newspapers stopped printing for a few weeks and people were coached on how to behave.
