In 1941, the British sent a captured Messerschmitt Bf 110 to the U.S. so American engineers could have a look at her. The Vultee Aircraft Company created an exhaustive report on the aircraft. Does anyone know what happened to the aircraft after Vultee was done with it?

My brain tells me they scrapped it, but my heart wants to believe there's a disassembled Bf 110 sequestered away in some forgotten aircraft hangar in California.

The crew took off from Denain aerodrome. They bombed Croydon aerodrome prior to being attacked by fighters, the wireless operator being wounded and the undercarriage damaged. The pilot managed to make a forced landing damaging the engines and airscrews.

The aircraft was exhibited at Hendon and in a London street, to raise money for the Spitfire Fund. It was later shipped to Los Angeles, aboard the SS Montanan in April 1941, where it was reassembled and evaluated by the Vultee Aircraft Company.

Unfortunately, I can't find any details of the aircraft's final disposition, except for several forum threads asserting that the plane's fate is unknown.

If anyone would know it would probably be a guy named John Vasco who is an aircraft modeler turned Luftwaffe unit historian, don't think he's online he's published so you could probably get a note asking about it forwarded through his publisher.
