When the Wehrmacht captured Western Allies they generally followed the Geneva Convention regardless of ethnicity. Even jews captured in british uniforms were then treated as other british soldiers. Soviet troops were treated horribly in comparison with the german excuse that the soviet union had not signed the Geneva convention and its people were thus not protected by it. Millions of soviet pows died in german camps and the survivors were viewed as traitors by Soviet authorities and sent to camps in Sibiria after the war

Partisans, spies and resistance fighters were also treated much worse and could be immediately executed.

In minor allied countries like Norway and Denmark the captives after the invasion were actually allowed to go home with the officers having to sign a declaration that they would not take up arms against Germany
