I'm assuming the love stories are likely not real, but I'm uneducated in the revolutionary period of the early US. I would like to be able to discern what was actually true, and what the writers took liberty with.
I'm equally unqualified to answer this question, but I am pretty handy with Search tools. I looked back through /r/askhistorians and found this question has come up a number of times - but oddly has never really be discussed. The only thread I could find that even had a single reply directed the user to this blog that discuss the show vis-a-vis historical accuracy, relevant historical trivia, etc.
