It did, there was a rapid growth of left wing politics during the early 1930's and there were a number of figures like Huey Long and Charles Coughlin that called for more radical wealth redistribution and state direction of the economy. However these figures and organisations did not produce any viable political challenge (Long was assassinated in 1936) and internally both the Republicans and Democrats stayed to their own positions.

A phrase often said is that the American people in 1933 gave democracy and the old political parties one more chance, Roosevelt gave them what they wanted. Of course those on the right at the time argued that Roosevelt gave America radical left wing policies on the economy.
