I've read a bit about Kramer's theory of a "proto-Euphratean" language from which Sumerian may have derived certain names for craftspeople, geographical features, and personal appellatives from earlier forms.

Apparently this isn't seen as likely these days; could anyone explain (or at least point me towards) the arguments against it?
