I wouldn't say France is any better. Through my studies in archaeology, I've learned some nasty things about them. The stuff they did in Southeast Asia was pretty terrible (that's the area I'm most familiar with, and one I wrote a research paper on). They were among the group of countries that did the most colonization (along with the Dutch and the Spanish and the English), and they got progressively worse through the years.
