So I know there are about a million books out there but I'm looking for one that describes it in a detailed way. Someone that encompasses the entire war and isn't a story about one person. I would love to know about battles and why they were important and some of the brilliance that happened during them. Also if it could help explain why certain battles were necessary or why certain places were vital that would be awesome as well.

I've been looking around but am having trouble finding something that fits all those requirements. Figured you guys know loads of history and might have stumbled across a book like this.
