Did the South continue to view slavery in a positive light after abolition? Did they defend slavery that still existed in other countries (i.e. Latin America)? Was there ever a movement (even a fringe movement) to bring it back, or did Southerners accept that it was gone for good?
Not a complete answer here, but from my investigations I remember Southern slavers emigrated to Cuba in the 1860s (slavery was abolished in Cuba too by the 1880s). Not that it helped much, considering that the Civil War ended in 1865 but the first Cuban independence war began in 1868 and lasted through 10 years of slaves being freed and cane fields being burned.
