I saw people discussing the Armenian genocide and someone also brought up the Circassian expulsion from Russia in the 1860's. I had never heard of this before and I'd like to get some more knowledge on the topic. For those not aware Circassia lies along the northeastern beaches of the Black Sea, between Georgia and the Crimean Peninsula.
A war for over a 100 years, between Russia and the much less equipped Circassian tribes. Entire villages burned to the ground along with destroying their crops and killing their cattle.
Russian soldiers killing everyone they found in their way; from children to women and elders. Some tribes were wiped out entirely. Cossaks were re-settled in the place of these tribes and their villages.
Some of the survivors were moved to swamps where no crops can be grown. Other survivors were forced to move to other territories by the Ottoman Empire after an agreement between the Ottomans and the Russians.
Many of those died while waiting at the beach, or during the journey crossing the Black Sea, either through diseases, starvation, or drowning.
