/u/Crimson4242 touched on the 'landing craft' at Gallipoli, which were really a motley crew of small ships/boats to be honest. Later in the war, 1917 to be exact, the British constructed a number of specialized landing craft in preparation for Operation Hush.

Hush was to involve the landing of a British army corps on the Belgian coast near nieuwpoort, in support of the planned British advance from the Ypres salient. Gough's 5th Army, with Plumper's 2nd Army supporting, would capture the Passchendaele-Staden Ridge, then advance on Roulers, forcing the Germans to withdraw from the coast. German resistance and VERY unseasonable weather precluded these plans.

Landing craft weren't really created until after the first world war. The landings at Gallipoli were initially done in wooden row boats, but this proved far too dangerous. They then started using steel hulled ships with holes cut in the side as early landig craft.
