I've been reading Arrian, and he mentions that Tyre sent out armoured warships against Alexander during the course of the siege. Do we have any other texts or archaeology which indicate the degree of armouring, whether it was purely utilised for this siege only or the materials which might have been used?
Sorry for the delay in seeing this! Unfortunately, I'm not quite sure what section of Arrian you refer to - I'd be more than happy to take a look at the Greek, but I'd need a place to look, first :) Would you be able to get me the section or a quote of the passage you refer to?
