Ian Smith and his cabinet signed the UDI (Unilateral Deceleration of Independence) after the Britain and the Commonwealth began to turn away from it, seeing it as a betrayal. However, before 1970, she was named as the Commander and Chief of the official Head of State of the Rhodesian Republic, even going as far as to make "God Save the Queen" its anthem until 1970. My question is this, What did the queen actually say in response to Rhodesia, Ian Smith and the Bush War?
Having read several biographies about QEII, I seem to remember that she did and said nothing publicly about this situation.. The Queen is a sphinx when it come to her personal opinions and rarely if ever lets them slip out.
