The Greeks that converted to Islam readily married Turks. Those that remained orthodox did not. The descendants of the janissary corps, the Cretan Turks, who despite their name are of Greek decent, additionally they could be found in Pontus. These people have largely assimilated into Turkish culture. They can be found in western turkey and northern turkey. Additionally they can be found on Cyprus, and through out the former Ottoman Empire. They have however largely assimilated into the local populations. The population transfers in the 1920s meant most left Greece for Turkey. Cretan Greeks can Be found in Lebanon and Syria.
