Alexander the Great was said to have slept with a copy of the Iliad under his pillow. Would this have been in the form of a bound book, or a scroll... or what?
In Alexander's day, the book had yet to be invented. The Iliad would have been written on several (more than 2 dozen) scrolls, which would have required some sort of chest or coffer to contain them.
