Most recently the Democrats controlled the house, senate, and the Presidency after Obama's election. He used that time to pass the economic stimulus and the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare).

The Republicans also controlled during parts of the presidency of George W. Bush also.

Another famous example was Lyndon Johnson's election in 1964 (Democrat), where he passed his many bills on his War on Poverty (Medicare, Medicaid, Head Start, etc). He also teamed up with liberal Republicans to pass Civil Rights Legislation.

I think you mean House of Reps instead of Congress. I think one was the 35th Congress when James Buchanan (Dem) was elected. I think the Republican under Lincoln was another. As for results I don't know enough to analyze that.
