How does syndicalism differ from Marxism?

Trying to better understand syndicalism as a form of socialism.

Syndicalism started out with the idea that a person's identification was with their job/profession rather than where they lived. So truck drivers across the polis would have a similar set of desires and needs, doctors would have a similar set, etc. Think of it as a system where unions have the role that political parties or political subdivisions have. Apparently pretty quickly it just became a form of socialism.
