I've heard that there was an organization called ODESSA which was former high ranking officials of the Nazi Regime who escaped the downfall of Germany and they're ultimate goal was to help create a fourth reich in Germany. Did this organization exist?
ODESSA is an acronym for "Organisation der Ehemaligen SS-Angehörigen", or, "Organization of Former SS Members".
There is considerable debate over whether it actually existed. Legendary Nazi-hunter Simon Wiesenthal says it did, but German historian Gitta Sereny, regarded by many as an authority on ex-Nazi leaders and their organizations, says it likely did not. Exhaustive studies done by German authorities tracking the financing of ex-Nazis have been unable to turn up any hard evidence on ODESSA's existence.
That said, there were likely many other organizations which served ODESSA's purported purpose, which was to act as a "ratline" for former Nazis seeking to escape Germany and/or justice.
