I recently started reading a few bits here and there on the internet about Spartan and Greek history, and I find it extremely interesting. I was wondering if anyone here could suggest a good book on the subject. If possible, one that isn't too heavy a read. I'd appreciate any suggestions !
Do you want historical overviews of the city-states, politics, war? If you are interested in the phalanx, "A Storm of Spears" and "The Western Way of War" are both really good.
Will and Ariel Durant did "A Life of Greece" as part of their "Civilization" series. It's a big book, but their writing style is very easy to read, and just wonderful.
