Hey guys, I'm a middle school teacher on a remote First Nations Reserve in Northern Ontario. My class has been studying the New France era in Canadian History, but a couple of my students (the history Keeners) are asking me to get some books on WW1 and WW2 for their personal reading. What books would be both interesting and appropriate to their reading levels? I focused on Victorian England at university, so I have basically nothing.
Gary Sheffield's "A Short History of the First World War" is an excellent, and most of all up to date, intro to WWI; and by a professional and respected historian at that.
I am not sure what the reading level for Grade 8 is! Could you offer some other readings they have to compare? Then maybe I could think of some similar suggestions focusing on WW1 and WW2.
