All emperors would have been referred to by the title 天子, son of heaven, regardless of period.
In Chinese historiography, they are referred to posthumously by their temple name, then from the Ming onward, by the reign period name.
Bear in mind that they also had family names, but I am not sure who, if any would still use that name after the installation as emperor.
