I was recently reading Tuchman's "Guns of August", and one thing that struck me particularly this reading was the regular reference the people involved on the French and German sides made to the war of 1870.

As a non-historian (just a regular joe trying to understand history), what is a/the book(s) that are considered the standard coverage of the social/cultural/political angles of that conflict.
