I understand it was the breakthrough for the LGBT rights movement, but besides that, did it really have any big influence on the political landscape? Did it directly influence the Marriage Equality Act?
It was they opening salvo in the modern gay rights movement so yes most changes in law and the debate and "culture wars" that has followed the event were influenced by it. I lived on Sheridan Square in June of 1969 and seeing well dress "drag queens" pushing back against the police provided some interesting watching.
