Here is a list of divisions of Imperial Japanese army.

Click division's name (numerals) and you can see their bases and outline. These cities were famous as military (army) city: Asahikawa, Sendai, Utsunomiya, Kanazawa, Hiroshima, Kurume and Kumamoto. Some cities were not prefecture's capital.

The Naval bases were Yokosuka, Kure, Maizuru and Sasebo (And Ominato in Aomori prefecture followed to). Those bases are called Chijyuhu鎮守府. And Atsugi was a main naval air base. And Chiran and Kanoya were not main bases but temporary bases for kamikaze.
