The reason I'm asking is that it's interesting to me that there has been an increase in hospital visits for Marijuana consumption (edibles in particular) in states like Colorado and Washington. Is this a temporary rate increase due to a new toy on the market drawing the inexperienced or is a more permanent rate due to simple more consumption?
I am curious to know of any possible similarities or parallels and what could be learned form the past contraban lifting.

Don't necessarily assume that greater number of hospital visits is the same as increased incidence. There may have been many cases where people avoided the hospital when there could have been legal repercussions.
There are reports that hundreds died from methanol poisoning due to finding denatured alcohol or from amateur stills.
