Hi, you have a great subreddit here. I've browsed the FAQ looking for an answer to my question, but haven't quite found what I'm after. From the FAQ, it is very obvious that there is sufficient evidence to believe that Jesus existed.
What I'd like to ask is, to whom would you compare our level of certainty about Jesus? For example, do we have better evidence for Jesus' existence than for Plato? Caesar? Alexander? The Buddha?
I've found that people seem to want a comparison point, where if they're willing to believe that so-and-so existed, then they really should believe Jesus existed. This would certainly help me understand the context of the evidence better. Thanks!
While it's not exactly the same question, you might be interested in this thread from last month on historical figures who have similar or less evidence than Jesus. In short, that's the case for most people in the ancient world, even people as famous as Hannibal.
