There is no single Protestant Church, but a collection churches not swearing fealty to the Pope and other ideas retaining to Jesus and God. The Puritans, the first Christian influence on the East Coast and arguably the United States, were very work savvy and believed that redemption can be found in Heaven if one did rigorous activities to prove so. Examples of these are going to Church everyday, becoming literate to read the Bible, and sometimes persecuting minorities (a bad decision in the long run).

As foreign influence grew in the United States after the War of 1812, we have grown apart from the strict idea of work hard/pray hard. There are still exceptions today, but for the most part the Protestant Churches have become more accepting of minorities and social issues over the eras.

Examples of Churches like this are the Episcopalian and Congregationalist. Episcopalian started implementing woman priests around the 1970s, and most congregationalists believe in evolution today. There are always exceptions, and the Southern Baptist Church maintains an anti-gay and abortion agenda.
