I'm interested in reading about the general geopolitical development of Europe from 1815-1914, and just wondering if anyone knows of a good book that surveys this whole period. I want to get a view into the political, social, and ideological developments that shaped this period and contributed to how the century played out, although I recognize that it may be tough to find something that rolls all those elements together, so I'm happy to take on multiple books if necessary. I like to read beyond very "general public" history so it's fine if it's a bit more advanced/academic than that.
I'm also interested in reading something that describes the long-term trends and events that lead up to the outbreak of WWI, so if you have any good suggestions on that I'd be very grateful as well!
Have you read "Struggle for the Mastery of Europe: 1848-1918" by A.J.P. Taylor? Its rather dated being written in 1954, but its a very influential book when it comes to understanding geopolitics in the post-Napoleonic period.
Revenge of Geography by Robert Kaplin give a rudimentary overview of geopolitics from past to present.

For the period you've asked about, see Great Power Diplomacy, 1814-1914, by Norman Rich. Rich really writes very nicely for a topic so often as dry as diplomatic politics. Enjoy!
