In my History class before my teacher retired, he told us about how during World War One, there was a battle where supposedly the army tried to take the enemy trench while "baaing" like sheep. Is there any evidence of this? And if there is evidence, what battle was this from?
I've never heard a story of soldiers attacking in this manner; However, there were cases of French troops 'baaing' like sheep on the way up to the frontline in 1917. This was during the Neville Offensive in 1917, on the Chemin Des Dames Ridge. It was the disappointing results of this offensive that would lead to the French Army Mutinies in April, although the French would recover and enjoy great success in August and October.
