Where in Germania? There is a bit of a difference between the woods of Scandinavia, the foothills of the Alps, and the marshes of the North Sea. Generally, though, Germanic villages would have been situated within between viewing and walking distance of eachother within a settlement zone, while separations between settlement areas could be crossed in a day as well. The best information on settlement density is from placenames in Denmark, because archaeology generally is not precise or representative enough to say with certainty which sites were contemporary, or whether they might be separated by a decade or two. Within settlement zones, the density of iron age villages was thus roughly equal, sometimes higher, than modern villages (though their size was much smaller). Major settlements, that is, of more than half a dozen farmsteads, were rarer though.
