Among the people who track the history of Artificial Intelligence there's the concept of the "AI Winter". Historically, scientists have always made overly optimistic predictions of how the field of AI would evolve, and this has always brought consequences in funding for research.
Currently, and this breaks the twenty years limit, the situation is different because we now have hardware that's powerful enough to emulate human intelligence.
