Reading through other previously-asked questions, not much discussion is generated, however there are some interesting articles and sources included which I'll link to below:

A National Geographic article -- Have We Found the Lost Colony of Roanoke Island? goes into some new techniques being utilized in the search for answers to the Colony's disappearance.

Finding the Lost Colony of Roanoke -- This is a pretty good article, produced by a scientific podcast "dedicated to furthering knowledge by blasting away the widespread pseudosciences that infect popular culture, and replacing them with way cooler reality", called Skeptoid ... So, similar to Snopes or StraightDope, if you are familiar with those.

And Here is an article by the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center. It goes into the use of tree rings in order to recreate the environmental changes which may precipitated the abandonment of the settlement. It's short but with some good content and sources at the end.

There has been some recent work done on the area by a team from the UK. Although they haven't found anything conclusive they have found some interesting evidence of what was happening in that area at the time. Here's the link to a local press article.
