I can't speak on Canada or Mexico, but a fair number of bartenders relocated to Europe and the Caribbean to work during prohibition, so it makes sense that a few sound have gone north and south to Canada and Mexico. Don't forget, however that Canada also had its own prohibition around the same time as the U.S.
