Like, I'm not necessarily asking if they were true (but I would like to know if they were true) but I was wondering what claims were made as to why life in the Soviet Union was superior to that of life in the United States. By the government or citizens, what the most important ones were, how they changed, the extant to which they were believed, the extant to which they were right, and how they changed over time would all be of interest to me.
I don't have enough cited knowledge to say anything without violating subreddit rules, but you may be interested in a documentary called My Perestroika. It's about a group of adults who were in their early 20s when Communism fell. They were children in the 70s when approval of the regime was higher and discuss things like how living standards and views about the west, their leadership, their history, etc. changed as they grew up.

From high school I remember being told that under Lenin there was arguably more gender equality and opportunity for women than in the UK. How accurate is this claim, and how long did this trend continue for?
