I read an article on the "Hapsburg Jaw", and I was wondering when theses families started having children with deformities, how were they viewed? When did the concept of inbreeding come into the social consciousness?
Tangentially related question, as the bible explicitly forbids incest, and the Hapsburgs had very close ties with the Roman Catholic church, did it ever cause an issue between them?
