Looking for layman history books

by sour_sp

Specifically I am looking for a book for volume of books that give a relatively in depth story of world history framed in the context of economics, politics and war starting with the antecedents of the Thirty Years war through to the end of the cold war.

Any books that drill down on a specific facet or time period would be stellar as well. In the meantime I intend to do an in depth search of the subreddits' booklist, but i figured I would pose the question here as well

Thank you.

You will want to start with the book "The rise and fall of the great powers: 1500-2000" by Paul Kennedy. Once you've read that, I would pick an area you are interested in, and then delve into period specific literature.
