I don't know if this really belongs here, but I tried a couple other subreddits and they seem...dead...but here it goes! I recently changed my major to history and want to get my foot in the door. When I asked my professor about where to start he said either a museum or a library is a good start. Well there are little to no museums out here and im not gonna hold my breath on my library calling me back. So my question is if there are other places that I can use to get my foot in the door? Hell I'll even take a suggestion to the correct subreddit at this point Also, if it helps, I want to do something where I work in archives, or hell even archeology.
There must be an archive at the university - and isn't there some sort of small museum on campus? Consider volunteering to get experience - although approach anyone with the question of employment and then if the answer is no, propose volunteering.
If there is really nothing in your own backyard, you'll need to exploit your summers effectively. Consider volunteering/work for a national park or be willing to spend a summer in a place that has a museum or archive. Good luck.
