Whenever I visit a cemetery I notice that graves are not particularly old - now that must be a legacy of the fact that I live in a young country with only a 230 years of colonized history behind it.

I wonder what cemeteries look like in continents with much longer civilized history. In general does progress mean all cemeteries will eventually be paved-over or ploughed-up?

Or maybe there are some cultures that treat them as sacrosanct, eternally never to be touched?

Of those that have made way to progress ... how many bones are there yet to be discovered?
