Well it was introduced very late in the war. Even by 1943, it was somewhat clear that the Axis were going to fall (at least in Europe). The Eastern front was melting with Soviet troops advancing with trucks and tanks, and the Americans and Brits were rushing through Africa and slogging Italy. As far as I know, it didn't contribute to any major victories. Re-arming the army and militia backup forces with new ammo and weapons would've taken awhile in a peacetime army, let along one fighting for survival.

Modern opinions of reproduction German automatic rifles from WW2 seem to be pretty positive. It did fire a 7.92x33mm round which was a shortened version of the standard 7.92x57mm round. This basically means that it has less punch at long range than the 7.92x57 however it was determined that by sacrificing punch at sniper ranges the weapon was more controllable during automatic fire.
