Are todays Macedonians directly related to the Macedonians of old, or are the Greeks right claiming that todays Macedon stole their history?

So, yeah, I've myself always though the Macedonians of today aren't related to the ancient ones, them being Hellenes, but not being an expert myself, I decided I needed some more information on the subject, and though this might be the place to get answers.

Sorry if the phrasing might offend some. I am myself not a native speaker of English, and so might phrase myself in a manner slighly offensive without this being the intention.

Classicists, do you consider Alexander the Great to be a Greek, or a Macedonian- a nationality that should remain distinct from Greece?

Was Alexander the Great Greek or Slavic (Macedonian)

Were the ancient Macedonians culturally and ethnically distinct from the Greeks, or were they a Greek society operating independently of the city-states in the south?

Did Alexander the Great really say that "whoever has been educated as a Greek is Greek"?

There are a few more also.
