It's my understand that there is evidence, and that it is generally accepted, that a man named Jesus lived and was executed by the Romans? I am interested to hear if there is any documentation about his parenrs. Do we know their names were Joseph and Mary, and were her claims of virgin conception know at the time or was that detail added later?
There are tons of medieval legends, etc. about Mary and Joseph, but the only remotely useful historical sources for them would be the canonical Gospels, and these aren't that useful since (a) the Gospels are really interested in Jesus, and only mention his parents when they want to make a point about Jesus, and (b) the extent to which the Gospels are historically reliable is a matter of no small controversy, since (even though they do contain historical data) their purpose is not strictly documentary.
There's no historical route to get "behind" or "beyond" the Gospels' claims that their names were Mary and Joseph, that the conception was virginal, etc. There simply are no even remotely contemporaneous sources other than the Gospels. Sorry!
