Hi there, I find the pervasiveness and aggressiveness of anti-semitism a bizarrely common prejudice coming from people of many different ideologies, religions and ethnicities. I would like to explore why it is such a common discrimination historically and why it has existed for such a long period of time (at least from what I understand). However I imagine that this topic attracts all kinds of apologists and extreme thinking which undermines actual facts and sensible hypothesis could someone point me in the right direction when it comes to reading?
One thing to look for in your research is that prejudice against Jews prior to the 1800s isn't typically referred to as "antisemitism" in academic history. "Antisemitism" is a specific set of beliefs that developed around the mid 1800s that were centered around the "global Jewish conspiracy" narrative. There is some argument among historians as to whether the development of antisemitism was actually different from the historical persecution of Jews, but the terminology is pretty universal among credible academic literature.
I think it's very important that you look for scientifically approved books or articles about your subject. To know what is 'correct' and what could be influenced by an ideology (or religion, ...) you should take a look in the references and bibliography of the book itself. A good scientific (in this case also historical) book or article should always mention its sources! By looking into scientific bibliographies or journals you could save yourself some time! Also: never blindly trust something without being able to check sources! (yes: even on reddit ;) ) Altough I dind't give you any particular examples, I hope that this helped in a way :)
