I can't speak to it being the first, but the most famous "book review" in my field, Arabic and Islamic Studies, was published in the 12th century:

In the 11th century the theologian Al Ghazali published "The Incoherence of the Philosophers" which was a point by point take down describing the inconsistencies and blasphemies of Islamic proponents of Greek Philosophy, like Al Farabi and Ibn Sina. He laid out, in excruciating Aristotelian logical detail, where these philosophers had gone counter to Islam.

In the 12th century, Averroes (Ibn Rushd) published his counter, in equally exquisite detail, giving it the crushing title of "The Incoherence of The Incoherence."
