Don't forget: The causes for Germany seeking war were different from those of Japan, and the latter country had been at war for years before the war broke out in Europe. Looking only at Germany and Hitler is getting only half of the picture.

There were a huge number of causes, with the worldwide economic depression andnproblems caused by the somewhat unsustainable agreements of the treaty of Versailles (eg, the Polish Corridor and the creation of German minorities) being only two of them, while tensions between Britain and France were a severe exacerbating factor. Additionally, we can also consider whether Hitler's policies were unique to him or merely demonstrated a continuity from previous German policies such as Weltpolitik, an influential theory argued by AJP Taylor. Like I said, this is a hugely broad question that should be narrowed down a bit.
