Did the Mongols persecute homosexual behavior?

by vaguelyhuman

Being a queer history & anthropology hobbyist, I was curious what how homosexual behavior was viewed by the Mongol khanates. I found one article in IIRC the Guardian claiming that the Mongols practiced the death penalty for homosexuality. Is there any primary source for this?

The Secret History of the Mongols has this to say:

And anyone found indulging in homosexual practices should be executed.

So yes, homosexual behaviour was viewed as a despicable act, however what's interesting to note is that unlike the Western persecution of homosexuals, the Mongols made no reference to religious reasons to justify the execution of homosexuals.
