Ramon Magsaysay of the Philippines had US support during his career as President from 1953-57. He was able to suppress the Huk insurgency with US help ( and make the anti-Communist politicians there happy with his anti-Communist stance), but also managed to institute some land reforms, and created much less corrupt administration than the previous one. Unfortunately for the Philipines, he was killed in a plane crash in 1957, at the age of 50.
