How do we know the Egyptians built the Pyramids?

by [deleted]

So a coworker of mine doesn't believe that the Pyramids were built by the egyptians, since "there isn't any evidence they did". I disagree, so I looked around online to find evidence for it, but I'm not having much luck. Most of the sources I find either discuss if slaves built the pyramids or how they pyramids were built, neither of which address my question.

So, now I'm curious: How do we know the Egyptians built the Pyramids, as opposed to it being another civilization that lived in ancient egypt before the ancient egyptians lived there?

Slaves did not build the pyramids, it was built by workers brought in particularly during periods when the Nile Flooded. We have even found city/settlement/whatever where the people lived and it's being excavated: http://www.aeraweb.org/projects/lost-city/.

We have pyramid texts written in old Egyptian, http://www.pyramidtextsonline.com/sarc.html

Who else would have built the pyramids? Is your coworker one of those people who think they were built by aliens? Is he a racist that thinks the people in premodern Africa could not have built the pyramids?
