What was children's role in society, and how were they treated in the past? (description is more specific!)

by [deleted]

Hi, curious to know more about how children were viewed in society and how they were treated, say in ...

  • ancient greece, in athens

  • in the ottoman empire

  • in the middle ages

  • in America, during the revolution or the civil war

I would be happy to get your perspectives on any of these time periods. Other time periods are also fine by me. I'm just curious because I saw this comment on reddit: "This may surprise you, but its only in the last 100 years that children are seen as anything but a burden and slave labor."

Thanks!
