This is a long shot but here goes. My great grandfather fought in Burma during WW2 . He served in the West Yorkshire regiment and at one point I believe was cut off for a period of time before being rescued and airlifted out. Here comes the tricky part. I once had a book which contained a picture of him aboard the aircraft with several others all looking very gaunt and Ill with large beards. This book has been lost over time and I cannot remember the title. Can anyone help? If there is any more information you may need let me know. I have bought lots of books looking but cannot find it. Thanks in advance
Was it Quartered Safe Out Here, by George MacDonald Fraser? Mike Calvert, who served in the Chindit Commandos in Burma also wrote at least three books about his service in the Campaign; Field Marshal Slim also wrote a memoir of his experiences.
